This is our entry in Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge: July 30, 2017.
This living statue was sitting on Rue Azais on Montmartre just down the hill from Basilique du Sacre-Coeur in Paris, France. The partially-created man on the right is chiseling the man on the left from stone. These street performers did not move while we were observing, except that the eyes of the man on the right thanked me for my donation in the box labeled MERCI (“thank you”). The quote
les oeuvres d’art ne se trouvent pas seulement dans les musées
means, in English,
Works of art are not only found in museums
This work is derivative of Bobbie Carlyle’s bronze sculpture titled Self Made Man, photos of which can be seen at her official website. According to her website,
Self Made Man is perhaps her best known work depicting man carving himself and his future from the raw stone from which he emerges.
This photo was taken on September 17, 2016. Specs are:
Olympus TG-4, ISO 100, f/3.4, 1/200 sec, 9.6 mm
I want to see a photo of him carving the carving. That would be even more mind blowing.

I think that is clearer in Bobbie Carlyle’s sculpture.

Wow! I don’t know how they stay so still. Fascinating.

We have seen single living statues before, but this is the first time we have seen two performing together. I don’t know how they do it, either.
