This is our entry in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Letter E – Needs to have two E’s in the topic word.
The Elevador de Santa Justa in Lisbon, Portugal, carries passengers (mostly tourists) from the Baixa district below to the Largo do Carmo and the Igreja do Carmo church above. Not visible from this angle is the walkway (in the back) leading to the church, but an arch of the church is visible on the right side across from the elevator. (The church was severely damaged in the 1755 earthquake and the stone roof of the main nave is gone, leaving only the pointed arches between the pillars.) The viewing platform on top of the elevator gives excellent views of the Baixa district and the side of the church.
This photo was taken on September 8, 2017. It was converted to black and white using Silver Efex Pro, with the elevator itself left in its original color. Specs are:

There is usually a long line to ride the elevator. If you just want to visit the observation platform on top, go directly to Largo do Carmo, walk around the right side of the church to the back, then walk up a few steps and through a restaurant to get to the entrance to the spiral staircase to the very top.
