This is our entry in Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Benches.
This photo shows four tourists seated in the top row of the Great Theater of Epidaurus in Greece. Even though they are 58 meters from the stage, the acoustics are so good that they and everyone else in the theater (which can accommodate 14,000 on 55 tiers of seats) can hear a person speaking normally from the proscenium (stage). Although a stone bench wouldn’t normally seem comfortable during a long performance, we can affirm from experience that it is a welcome place to rest after climbing up the steep steps from the stage. (In today’s arenas, these seats would be known as the “cheap seats” in the “nosebleed section.”)

This is our entry in Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Signs of any kind.
The Wine Buff is a wine shop near the English Market, at 78 Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City, Ireland. This sign was prominently featured in the shop window. Personally, we think that Cork is a serendipitous location for a wine shop.

This giant octopus resides in the Oceanário de Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal. Suckers of one arm are attached to the side of the aquarium, just inches from the camera.

The Elevador de Santa Justa in Lisbon, Portugal, carries passengers from the Baixa district below to the Largo do Carmo above. (A photo of the elevator can be found in our earlier post Elevador de Santa Justa — Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Letter E.) The photo below was taken just before sunset from the viewing platform on top of the elevator. Looking down on the geometric shapes of the red terracotta tiled rooftops, you can see the hats and caps of previous tourists who leaned too far over the railing without securing their headgear in the breeze.

For everyone who did not get to enjoy a 4th of July fireworks display, here for your viewing pleasure is a selection from the fireworks display at Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia. The images are set to the finale of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
The photos were taken with a Canon SL1 and Olympus TG-5 on July 4, 2018.
This is our entry in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Piles or Stack.
We saw this huge woodpile at a local garden center. It dwarfs the car parked to the left.
Here is a closeup of the sign at lower right in front of the woodpile. The sign could easily be overlooked, but it should go without saying …
