I needed a little recreation this week so I photographed soap bubbles. I set up for macro using a 100mm macro lens in front of to 56mm of extension tubes. My camera was attached to my tripod using a macro rail. The scene was lit by an Alien Bee strobe light with a diffuser attached.
I looked on the internet for soap bubble mixtures. I found that a combination of dish soap, distilled water, and glycerine would make long lasting bubbles. I filled the cap of a can of spray paint with this mixture and used a drinking straw to blow my bubbles. I found that I could make several small bubbles and then pick one to enlarge by pushing the straw into it and blowing gently. In general, though, I liked the smaller bubbles more.
Here are the results.
