This is our entry in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Wildlife.
This wild Asian elephant was standing between Thanamalvila Rd and Uda Walawe Reservoir near the Elephant Transfer Home in Udawalawe National Park in Sri Lanka. With about ten feet between us, as well as only a two-strand wire fence, we stared at each other calmly. (Full disclosure: We humans did not get out of the car.)
The Sri Lankan elephant (Elephas maximus maximus) has been on the endangered list since 1986.
