Day 16: Halong Bay – Hanoi

This day again began with Tai Chi instructions on the sundeck above Pati and BeeBee’s cabin, which they could overhear at times. At 7 am, breakfast was served with the same options as yesterday.

At 7:45, a group of passengers including the 7 passengers described yesterday (which includes Pati and BeeBee)  boarded the tender again, effectively saying goodbye to all the remaining passengers (because they will be off on their long expedition when this group returns to the Glory Legend).

The tender delivered the group to the Sung Sot Cave. They walked up about 100 steps to the cave entrance and toured the cave for about 45 minutes. This is a truly beautiful cave; it reminded Pati of Luray Caverns in Virginia. They exited the cave, walking down 200+ steps to return to the tender.

After they returned to the Glory Legend, they checked out of their cabin and paid their remaining tab. A wonderful lunch was served as they cruised back through Halong Bay to the pier. They walked off the ship to a similar waitting lounge, where a shuttle bus picked them up for the transfer back to Hanoi, with a rest stop at a similar shopping area halfway.

They were dropped off at the end of their hotel’s street, where they were welcomed warmly and given the same room again. It was good to be “home” again.

They arranged with the hotel staff for a short excursions tomorrow morning before check-out, and then walked out again for dinner at Gecko, where they had eaten a few nights before. This time they did not get lost returning to their hotel.
