The Wine Buff — Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Signs of any kind

This is our entry in Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Signs of any kind.

The Wine Buff is a wine shop near the English Market, at 78 Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City, Ireland.  This sign was prominently featured in the shop window.  Personally, we think that Cork is a serendipitous location for a wine shop.

The English Market in Cork

We took a transatlantic cruise from Miami to Dublin in April. One of the stops was in Cobh, Ireland. While in port, we took the train from Cobh to Cork. After walk around a bit, we realized that Cobh had seemed more interesting — except for the English Market. It is a busy market, but there isn’t anything there a cruising tourist could buy (fresh fish, anyone?) which was perfect for us. We were able to explore and take photographs (fortunately, we didn’t discover the sign limiting photography until we were leaving). The following is one of the many images we captured.

Upper Gallery of the Long Room — Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Books or Paper

This is our entry in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Books or Paper.

We visited the Library of Trinity College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland, this spring. This photo shows rows upon rows of ancient books in the Long Room (upper gallery.)  The lower gallery is similarly impressive, but it also contains rows upon rows of tourists.

The RMS Titanic’s Last Dock — Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Words that end in “ock”

This is our entry in Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Words that end in “ock”.

On April 10, 1912, the RMS Titanic anchored near Queenstown, Ireland, to board its last 123 passengers for its first transatlantic voyage. Two tender ships left from the dock pictured below (arguably in better condition in 1912), with 10 first- and second-class passengers in one tender and 113 third-class passengers in the other.  Ferrying was completed by 1:30 pm, and the Titanic departed.

The Guinness Waterfall

This is our entry in The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Liquid.

We recently visited the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, Ireland. Their stout is made from Wicklow mountain water, roasted malted barley, hops, and brewer’s yeast. One floor of the multistory building is dedicated to those four ingredients. The most dramatic display is a waterfall representing the very special water used in making Guinness stout.

… a fish needs a bicycle — Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge: May 13, 2018

This is our entry in Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge: May 13, 2018.

This animated sculpture is located on the third (“World of Advertising”) floor of  The Guinness Storehouse® in Dublin, Ireland.  It  brings to life the saying coined by the Australian Irina Dunn in 1970:

A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.
