Queuing at the Elevador de Santa Justa

This is our entry in Manja Mexi Moving’s Friendly Friday bricks and tiles.

The Elevador de Santa Justa in Lisbon, Portugal, carries passengers (mostly tourists) from the Baixa district below to the Bairro Alto district above.  The observation deck on top of the elevator gives excellent views of the Baixa district as well as the line of tourists queuing to enter the elevator.  From 45 meters up, the people in the queue seem to copy the pattern in the tile beside them.

For a photo of the Elevador de Santa Justa itself, from which we took the above photo, see our post Elevador de Santa Justa — Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Letter E.  For another view from the top showing tiled rooftops, see our other post at View from Elevador de Santa Justa — Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Week 1 Photo – geometry, bushes, window, brick, etc.

Lisbon Shadows — Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Shadows

This is our entry in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Shadows.

Walking through the Alfama in Lisbon, Portugal, we came across this double-shadowed building. In an area famous for its street art, the wall featured a simple shadow of a girl surrounded by flying birds. We were struck by the juxtaposition of the faux shadows  with the real shadows thrown by the bush and window shutters.

This is our entry in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Week 1 Photo – geometry, bushes, window, brick, etc.

The Elevador de Santa Justa in Lisbon, Portugal, carries passengers from the Baixa district below to the Largo do Carmo above.  (A photo of the elevator can be found in our earlier post Elevador de Santa Justa — Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Letter E.)  The photo below was taken just before sunset from the viewing platform on top of the elevator. Looking down on the geometric shapes of the red terracotta tiled rooftops, you can see the hats and caps of previous tourists who leaned too far over the railing without securing their headgear in the breeze.

This is our entry in Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge – January 19, 2018.

We found this sign on the door to a bathroom in Lisbon, Portugal. Sometimes it is hard for a tourist to understand exactly which way the locals are expecting us to behave.
