This is our entry in Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge – January 19, 2018.
We found this sign on the door to a bathroom in Lisbon, Portugal. Sometimes it is hard for a tourist to understand exactly which way the locals are expecting us to behave.
This photo was taken on September 8, 2017. Specs are:
Canon 100D, ISO 100, f/16, 1/125 sec, 28mm.
Bit weird

I still have no idea what the sign is supposed to mean 😀

The words are supposed to mean that the toilet is available only for those who buy food at the establishment (written by someone for whom English is not their first language). What the illustration is supposed to suggest is a mystery, but what it seems to suggest would be considered impolite (at least) in the U.S..

I didnn’t think the words and picture were supposed to be in conjunction. I worked out the words but with the picture added I was baffled. Thanks for your explanation 🙂

A Google search shows that this Peeping Tom sign can be found in the U.S. also. 😨

“Consuming” is fine… but why there is a peeping tom there? 😀

We think the illustration is meant to get your attention so that you will read the words.

I don’t get it 🙂 Does this sign encourage us to peep? The language is also strange. It looks like they used Google Translate 🙂

We think the illustration is meant to encourage us to read the words. As travelers, we appreciate the effort to provide signs in English, especially when we don’t speak the language of the country. (We wonder what signs in our country are really saying when they are translated into a foreign language.)
