This is the Cape Lookout Lighthouse as seen across Onslow Bay from 17.2 km (about 10.7 miles) away in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. This photo was taken with a digital point-and-shoot camera at its maximum focal length, resting on the railing cap of a balcony (i.e., without a tripod). Arguably not the greatest picture ever taken of this lighthouse, we were nevertheless pleased that conditions that evening allowed us to capture this soft nostalgic image.

This photo was taken on the beach near Fort Macon at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. Many who walk this beach carry a collecting bag and scan the large offerings of seashells for just that perfect shell to take home as a souvenir. The woman walking on the left in the photo already has a start on her collection.
These clouds were momentarily above the entrance to Beaufort Inlet at the eastern point of Bogue Banks, near Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. The photo was taken from atop the covertway (outer wall) of Fort Macon, now a state park, which was built between 1826 and 1834 to protect Beaufort Inlet and Beaufort Harbor. The clouds seemed to be announcing a storm that arrived the next day.
